Bauhaus Animals

This workshop was commissioned as part of the ‘School Fundamental’ Festival held at the Bauhaus Building as part of the Bauhaus Centenary Celebrations in Dessau Germany (2019).  Inspired by the costumes of the Bauhaus costume maker Oskar Schlemmer, participants were tasked with constructing body masks inspired by or responding to the historic building of the Bauhaus centre itself. In so doing, they were encouraged to connect with the bohemian spirit of the Bauhaus school, and engage with the physical architecture of the building, now empty, as a source of inspiration. These ‘Bauhaus animals’ then paraded through the festival causing havoc and uproar as they went!
